Reunited With My Culture and Heritage

101 27
Since I left Haiti at a young age, I did not really fully grasp the Haitian music. Here, in the state my parents used to only listen to radio talk show. I was growing up and was not associated myself with my Haitian culture. I mostly listened to rap and R&B and a little jazz. It was not until I reached high school that I befriended Johnny who just came over from Haiti.

Johnny used to only listen to Haitian Kompa Music. At first I did not really know what it is. I mean, I could understand some of the words, and I remembered that he introduced me to Sweet Micky. My Virgin ears would never be the same again after I listened to Sweet Micky Cursing in creol. I loved it, I was shock. I mean, Haitian people are very conservatives, and here this guys singing and cursing at the same time. He had the mouth of a sailor. Every other word out of his mouth was a curse words.

Before the summer break, Johnny and I went to my first Haitian Concert. I was like, oh my God. The concert was jammed pack. Beautiful ladies everywhere, I was trying to ask them to dance and I did not even know how to dance. This where my audacity came to play. I watched the others danced and I mimicked them. By the end of the night, I was a pro. I was all over the dance floor. I wanted more; this did not satisfy my hunger for the Haitian music.

I started to spend all my earning from work into buying Haitian cds; I discovered more artists and more bands. By the end of the summer my Haitian music collection grew up to 50 cds. I was so happy to reconnect to my culture and my heritage. Every Friday, I was a regular at a Haitian club. I fall in love with the music.

I always wanted to give something back to the Haitian industry that gave so much more to me. Muziklakay.com is my way of showing respect and payback to the HMI. Muziklakay.com is for everyone that wants to get to know the Haitian music industry. Inside you will found a lot of music video from the artists. Today, I could not be more happy about the work that muziklakay.com is doing. We have viewers from around the world that watching and quenching their thirst for Haitian Music. In the Future I want to be able to do much more for the HMI. Perhaps take our music to the international music scenes.
