How to Wire Up a Four Channel Amplifier Using a Ford Amplifier

104 28
    • 1). Open the hood of your Ford and disconnect the battery cables from the battery by loosening both terminal nuts with a wrench. Slide the cables off the battery posts.

    • 2). Find a good location in your Ford for the four-channel amp and mount it to your vehicle. You will need a location that has room for air to flow over the amp. Screw the amp directly into the chassis using the four screw holes on the amplifier. Be careful not to disturb existing wires or fuel lines.

    • 3). Locate the speaker outputs from the factory amp. Cut the speaker wires going to the speakers, leaving sufficient wire to reach the new four-channel amp. Strip off the end off the wires using a wire stripper.

    • 4). Run the speaker wires from the factory amp to the four-channel amp and connect them to the Hi-Level input. You will have four wires to connect -- left and right for both front and rear. Slide the wire into the speaker terminal on the amp and tighten the screws with a screwdriver to hold the wires in place.

    • 5). Connect the power cable that you will run to your amp to the "positive" post on the car battery post by sliding the ring on the end of the power cable over the post.

    • 6). Run the other end of the power cable to the four-channel amp. You may have to drill a hole in the firewall to feed the cable from the engine compartment to the cab. Attach the other end of the power cable to the four-channel amp by sliding the end of the cable into the power input on the amp and tightening the screw to hold the cable in place.

    • 7). Ground the four-channel amp by connecting one end of a ground wire to the "ground" input on the amp and the other end to any bare metal on the vehicle. The best way to do this is to find a nearby bolt and loosen it so that you can place the end of the wire underneath. Tighten down the bolt to hold the ground wire in place.

    • 8). Expose the speakers that you want to connect to the four-channel amp by removing the trim panel on the front and rear doors. Remove the positive and negative speaker wire that is already connected to the speakers.

    • 9). Connect speaker wires to the speaker outputs on the four-channel amp by sliding the bare wire into the terminal and tightening the screws down. Keep the wires organized. You will be running wires to the left and right speakers in the front and back. The four-channel amp is marked accordingly.

Run the speaker wires to each speaker in the vehicle and connect the positive and negative lead to the corresponding connections on the speakers. Each speaker will be clearly marked with a "+" and "-" for error-free installation.
