Spooky Decoration Ideas for an Adult Halloween Party

104 31
    • As adults, the sugar rush of Halloween may have worn off, but that does not mean the spooky fun has to end. The kids may be out collecting candy from the neighbors, but adults can have some fun as well. Here are some ideas to help decorate for a Halloween party for grown-ups.

    Entryway

    • When guests arrive, set the scene at the doorway. Draping cobwebs around the entrance works, but for a more intricate and elaborate look, follow Martha Stewart's advice, and create paper shadows. You need some black construction paper, scissors and double-sided tape. Simply cut out paper bats in different sizes, and use the double-sided tape to stick them to the walls. Remember to leave the wings free so that they will flap as the door opens and closes. These dark shadows epitomize Halloween and help create an eerie entrance for guests.

    Table

    • Good Housekeeping suggests covering the table with a black tablecloth and then accenting it with ripped cheesecloth. This creates a spooky cobweb effect across the table. Using dark tableware for the tables, particularly in blood or wine red, creates a somber mood. A grotesque centerpiece will finish off the look. Martha Stewart takes craft-store skeleton parts and puts them in a clear cake dome to create a frightening centerpiece. Throw around some fake spiders and cockroaches to round out the table.

    Lighting

    • Halloween decorations are all about setting the mood, and lighting is one of the best ways to do so. It can be as simple as replacing regular light bulbs with dark purple or red ones, or it can be much more elaborate. If lampshades are light in color, Martha Stewart recommends taking small bat or spider silhouettes and sticking them in the shade; that way, they will reflect across the wall. Candlelight creates a nice glow, particularly for Halloween. Try taking white tapered candles and dripping red wax down the sides to create a bloody effect.

    Food and Drink

    • Halloween is a time to get creative with food and drinks. Most craft stores sell body-part baking molds during the season, making it easy to create creepy snacks. For foods that look a bit more appetizing, try halving a small pumpkin to fill with dip. Any drink can become spooky if you add Halloween-themed ice cubes. Look in the seasonal section for eyeball and severed finger chillers for drinks. Using tomato juice as a mixer can make any drink "bloody." Get inventive when it comes to mixing drinks; try using glow sticks instead of regular swizzle sticks to add a fun twist.
