How do I Replace the Cat Muffler on Husqvarna 346Xp Chainsaw?
- 1). Turn off the chainsaw's engine and let the saw cool for at least five minutes before working on the muffler. According the operator's manual, these mufflers get dangerously hot during operation and can start a fire.
- 2). Unscrew the small screw on top of the muffler with the screwdriver. Slide out the spark arrestor screen from the muffler. Clean it with a brush or replace it if the carbon deposits are blocking the screen. Set the screw and screen aside in a safe place.
- 3). Unscrew the muffler cover with the Allen wrench by turning the bolts counterclockwise. Remove both of the bolts and pull off the cover.
- 4). Unscrew the muffler's two bolts on the mounting plate, which is connected to the engine. Turn the bolts counterclockwise with the Allen wrench. Remove the bolts and pull off the muffler. Wipe the area on the engine underneath where the muffler sat with the rag.
- 5). Set the new catalytic converter muffler over the engine's exhaust port. Hold the muffler in place and set the mounting plate onto the muffler. Continue holding the muffler in place while tightening the mounting bolts with the Allen wrench.
- 6). Set the muffler cover in place over the muffler. Hold the cover while tightening the bolts with the Allen wrench. Place the spark arrestor screen over its hole on top of the muffler. Tighten the screw, which holds the screen in place over the exhaust hole.
