Joining Floating Floor With Tile
- 1). Determine the type of transition piece you need to cover the floating floor gap between floating floor and tile. If you need to transition from laminate to tile in the middle of a room, use t-molding. T-molding slides between your two different flooring types and provides a cover to hide the imperfections and uneven cuts that would otherwise show without a transition piece. If you need to transition laminate to tile in a doorway, use a threshold. A threshold can accommodate different floor heights and helps bridge the gap between the flooring types so it's not a tripping hazard.
- 2). Measure the floating floor gap between your floating floor and tile. A typical transition piece can cover a gap that's up to one inch wide.
- 3). Run a tape measure from one end of your floating floor gap to the other to determine how long the gap is. Use a circular saw to cut your transition piece down to size.
- 4). Nail the transition piece in place using finish nails. The nails fit in the middle of the transition piece so you won't have to drive the nails into the tile.
