Read the labels and stay away from hard to digest grains such as corn, wheat, glutens, dairy or soy.
Many dogs can be allergic to grains like corn, soy, and wheat so starting your Puggle puppy off on these foods is not good.
Corn especially, can lead to overweight issues as your puppy ages.

Probably the most essential ingredient in dog food is the protein.
Be sure and get a good quality source like chicken meal.
Make sure it's listed in the first few ingredients.
Chicken meal has more protein in it than regular chicken because the water has been removed.

Find a food your dog will enjoy eating.
You might choose a "healthy food" but your puppy might not like it.
Some companies offer sample packs that your puppy can try.
That way you know for sure that he will like it.

Many dog foods have what is called "by products" in them.
These are sometimes used to add additional protein to the food.
Unfortunately, these are an inferior protein source and not good for your puppy.
