How to Groom a Pit Bull

104 45
    • 1). Rinse off your dog in the tub or shower. If you have a shower head attachment, that will make things easier than trying to submerge her in a bath.

    • 2). Wash your pit bull with a mild soap designed for dogs. Avoid shampoos meant for people, as they may have chemicals or fragrances that could irritate your pit bull's skin.

    • 3). Apply ear wash to your dog's ears, then give him an ear massage for about 30 seconds. When you are done, allow your pit bull to shake his head to clear out his ears. Handle your dog's ears regularly, so he will get used to it and won't get upset during the cleaning. You shouldn't need to clean your pit bull's ears more than once a month, unless they look particularly dirty.

    • 4). Towel dry your dog, especially if it's cold inside.

    • 5). Trim your dog's nails with nail clippers weekly. If you can, have a friend hold your pit bull's head and talk to him gently while you clip the nails quickly and efficiently. Clip only the tips of his nails, making sure to avoid cutting into the quick -- which can cause pain and bleeding. Handle your pit bull's paws often so he will get used to the touch and won't get frightened or upset.
