How to Change XP Startup Wallpaper

    • 1). Choose a bitmap (.bmp) image to replace your current startup wallpaper.

    • 2). Click the Windows "Start" menu then click "Run." Type "regedit" (without quotes) in the open box then press "Enter" to launch the registry.

    • 3). Click the "+" symbox next to the "HKEY_USERS" folder to expand it. Click the".DEFAULT" folder then click "CONTROL PANEL." Click "DESKTOP" then double-click the string "Wallpaper." Enter the full path and filename of the .bmp image that you want to use as your startup wallpaper.

    • 4). Click "OK" to save the changes then click "File." Click "Exit" to close the registry. Restart your computer to verify the change. You should see the new wallpaper on the startup screen.
