How to Troubleshoot a Sylvania SMPK8854
- 1). Calibrate the touch screen if it does not perform the commands that you touch. To calibrate the touch screen, touch "Settings" to open the "Settings" menu. Tap "System" and choose "Touch Calibration." Press the stylus in the middle of the cross three times to calibrate the screen.
- 2). Charge the battery by plugging the small end of the supplied USB cord into the USB jack on the bottom of the Sylvania SMPK8854 and plugging the other end into a USB drive on your computer if the MP3 player does not start. The computer must be on to charge the MP3 player. It will take approximately four hours to charge the device.
- 3). Adjust the "Backlight Time" and "Power Off" settings to conserve battery life if you find that the MP3 player battery dies quickly. To change the "Backlight Time," tap "Settings," "Display," "Backlight Time" and choose one of the lower time settings. The lowest time setting is five seconds, and the backlight will turn off five seconds after your last activity. To change the "Power Off" setting, tap "Settings," "Power Off" and one of the lower time settings. The lowest time setting is 10 minutes, and the MP3 player will shut off 10 minutes after the last media is played if you don't continue to use the player.
- 4). Press and hold the "Play" button on the front of the device to turn on the power. Pressing the "Play" button quickly will not turn on the power, which confuses some users when they first start using the Sylvania SMPK8854.
- 5). Reset the device if it becomes unresponsive by pressing the "RES" button on the right side of the MP3 player. The player will shut off and turn on again automatically.
