Taylor Dooley Discusses Her Role in "The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl"
Taylor Dooley on What Makes Lava Girl Special: "She can shoot lava out of her hands and she can turn into lava by saying, 'Hot Lava, hot lava.' And she turns into this blob of lava. The only thing solid is her head."
Taylor Dooley on Working with Robert Rodriguez: "He is so much fun and he is so nice. He really is. He?s the nicest person and the set was so fun because it was a family environment. It was like you?re part of his big family."
On Working with Green Screens: "I?ve never done anything off of green screens other than commercials so it was really different because you had to have a great imagination. You really did."
Taylor Dooley on Using Her Imagination While Filming "The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl:" "Well [Robert] would always draw pictures just to show us. So we?d have a little bit of an idea, but it wasn?t in color or anything so we?d have to imagine all the colors and stuff."
Taylor Dooley's Cool Lava Girl Costume: "My costume it looks really hot ? like it?d be hot ? it was the exact opposite. It was really weird and the lava in it was actually orange tape. They made it glow with special effects and stuff."
On Working on a 3-D Film: "Acting was the same but your movements, you?d have to make something very big and pronounced. If you were going to punch, you had to punch more to the left than really into the camera lens. And in the movie it looks like it?s in the camera lens. So it?s really different."
The Prospect of an "Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl" Sequel: "I hope so. I really do. I?ve heard that they already have it almost written but I don?t know for sure. That?s just what I heard. I really hope we do a second one because it was so much fun to work with everyone."
Taylor Dooley's Favorite Day of Filming: "It was really all just a lot of fun. There was one day where I was supposed to kiss Shark Boy on the cheek because he saves me. So that was scene was my first kiss and it wasn?t really a kiss, it was a peck on the cheek. But it was my first time I?d ever done anything like that. So I was always telling the hair and makeup guy, 'I?m so nervous. I?m sooo nervous!' And he was like, 'Just calm down.' And so what he did was he went and told Robert as a joke. And they?re really close. He uses the same people over and over. [Robert] got an idea and he didn?t tell the hair and makeup guy and he went and brought out a wooden pole and had me kiss the wooden pole. And then finally I had to kiss Shark Boy ? it was just all a joke."
