DIY Hose Reel

    • 1). Scribe two 9-inch diameter circles onto the plywood and cut them out with the scroll saw—to cut with a scroll saw you move the wood around the blade, gently feeding it through in the desired cut, don’t force it through the blade. Scribe two 3-inch diameter circles in the center of each 9-inch circle, and cut them out as well. Make sure you are wearing your protective goggles and mask while cutting. Keep one of the 3-inch cut outs aside for later.

    • 2). Attach a 1-inch drill bit to the drill, and drill a 1-inch hole, about 2 inches in from the side of one of the plywood circles. Cover the end of the dowel piece in glue, then insert it into the drilled hole, so that around 4 inches of the dowel pokes out one side, the other side flush. Let dry. Sand then paint or varnish the plywood pieces and dowel, which is the handle of the hose reel. Let it dry.

    • 3). Cover the outside of both ends of the PVC pipe with glue, then insert them into the 3-inch holes in the plywood. Make sure the ends of the pipe are flush with the outside of the plywood, and that the dowel handle is facing outwards. Let dry.

    • 4). Position your angle bracket where you want the hose reel to be, then screw it into the wall using the drill and a smaller drill bit. Place the PVC pipe over the horizontal arm of the bracket, making sure the dowel handle is facing outwards, so you can turn the reel around the bracket.

    • 5). Cut a slit, around an inch wide into the center of one of the 3-inch circle cut outs of plywood with the scroll saw, then insert the end of the angle bracket into the slit and glue in place. This will prevent the hose reel from coming off the angle bracket.
