How to Fix a Cracked Rear Projection TV

104 8
    • 1). Turn off the TV by pressing the "Power" button on the front bezel and then unplugging all of the cords from the rear. The power cord and the audio/visual wires must be disconnected as they can all supply a current to the TV. Pull the TV out from its nook so that you have access to the rear of the TV. Wait 10 minutes so that the capacitors no longer carry a charge.

    • 2). Unscrew the Phillips-head screws that secure the rear housing to the TV. The exact number of screws depends on the make and model of rear-projection TV. They will be located along the edge of the TV. Pull the rear housing off the TV and place it somewhere safe as it can crack easily.

    • 3). Unscrew the screws that secure the screen in place inside the TV. Slide the screen out carefully, use work gloves if there is a danger of cracked screen cutting you. Slide in the new screw and screw it into place. Slide the rear housing back into place and screw the rear screws back into place.

    • 4). Plug in the TV and turn it on. Run a test by watching something so you can make sure the picture is not distorted.
