How to Light Green Screens
- 1). Set up your green screen. Make sure there are no wrinkles in the screen, as these will cast shadows under lighting and make it more difficult to key out in post-production.
- 2). Remove any ambient lighting from the room. Turn off the lights and cover any windows so that the only lighting on the green screen comes from your own lights.
- 3). Position two sets of lights -- one on the right side of the screen and one on the left -- and aim them at the screen. The lights should be at about a 45 degree angle and in front of the screen, but not so close to the screen that they will show up in your shot.
- 4). Turn on the lights. The object is to get the green screen as uniformly lit as possible with no shadows or darker spots visible. Adjust the lights as needed until the entire screen is lit properly.
