How to Get a Copy of W2 Tax Forms
- 1). Contact your employer's Human Resources department. See if it provides a platform that allows its employees to access their W-2 tax forms online such as w2express.com or ipay.adp.com. If not, request another W-2 form by mail. If so, get the website address, the employer code and go to the next step.
- 2). Log on to the website. Enter your employer's name or code into the appropriate box indicated, along with your user name and password. Not all W-2 websites are structured the same but they all will require you to have that basic information mentioned above to gain access to their website.
- 3). Follow system prompts to gain access to your personal information. Click the appropriate link to view your W-2 and print as many copies as you need.
- 1). Determine if you want copies of the entire tax return packet or just the copy sent as an attachment. As of 2010, the IRS charges $57per tax year for each entire packet requested.
- 2). Complete form 4506 or 4506-T (see Resources). Form 4506 is the "Request for Copy of Tax Return" and it costs $57 per tax year. It will supply a copy of the tax return filed along with the W-2s. Form 4506-T is the "Request for Transcript of Tax Return". It will supply the W-2 information and a transcript of your return for free. Fill the form out completely or it will be rejected.
- 3). Mail the form back to the address indicated on the form. Include your payment with it, if it is required. Payment needs to be sent in the form of a check or money order made payable to the IRS.
