103 11
Halloween is a time in the year where everyone is busy planning their costume.
For cartoon fanatics, finding a costume for themselves is not that difficult since there are varieties of cartoon themes available to choose from.
If you want to emulate a cartoon heroine, what better way than to dress up in a Mulan costume.
Mulan is a Chinese maiden who secretly goes to the army to save her father from death.
She covered up her femininity and dressed like a boy since women were not allowed to join the army.
She became the best warrior, far exceeding her male counterparts.
A lot of girls look up to Mulan, and want to feel her inner beauty and strength this Halloween by dressing up like her.
Below are simple steps you can follow in order to have a Mulan costume.
  1. Gather all the materials needed.
You can search every closet in your house so that you will not be able to spend a dime this year.
If you were able to save some dollars, you can drop by a thrift or costume store for the following: bathrobe, corset or long cloth (the width should be appropriate for the width of your tummy), long white socks, bamboo slippers, hair pins/ clips, make up and Chinese-designed fan or bamboo umbrella.
  2. Your bathrobe; you're going to make a kimono out of it.
The bathrobe should be in any shade of pink for a more feminine look.
Then wear the corset or if none, a long cloth that can be secured around your tummy and tied up on the back by forming a big ribbon.
The corset or cloth should be in any shade of color as long as it is darker than the robe to give emphasis.
  3. Your socks.
The socks should be white and long to covering the remaining visible skin on your feet after wearing the bathrobe.
Then wear your bamboo slippers to complement the look.
  4. Your Make-up.
Color your face as white as possible and make your eye brows thick and long by using an eyebrow pen.
You can also make your eyes look more Asian or Chinese by doing an outline of your eyes with an eye liner and make an extension at the edge of the eyes to give the eyes an Asian look.
  5. Fix your hair up and secure it with hair clips, making a hump out of your hair.
You can place a chopstick on it to add more personality to your look.
You can also make use of hair gel to make your hair smooth and fixed.
Lastly, to complete the Mulan look, hold a Chinese fan or a bamboo umbrella.
Now you can join your friends in doing trick or treats with all eyes on you in a very inexpensive but convincing Mulan costume.
