Ideas to Hide Wires

After you have purchased new stereo equipment or big-screen television, the last thing you want is to have unsightly speaker wires cluttering up your home. According to Home Improvements Depot, the lighter weight of newer home entertainment equipment makes it easier to install them in different places. That means there is more cable to hide, and you need ideas to hide wires. - One way to run wires along your ceiling is in crown molding. There are many different kinds of crown molding that leave a sizable space between the wall and the molding. This space makes the perfect place to hide wires for any kind of in-home installation.
- Running cables up the wall to any kind of hiding method at the ceiling defeats the purpose of hiding cables. To hide your cables that need to run up the wall, you can run them inside the wall. Drill a small hole near the place where you will be hiding the cables near the ceiling, and then one down near the floor. Drop a wall cable guide down from the top hole to the one by the floor. Attach the cable to the guide and pull it up through the top hole.
- If you have wall-to-wall carpeting then you have a way to hide wires. You can run the wires along the perimeter of the room but under the carpet. Do not run wires across the room under the carpet as that will create a bump in the carpet, and your cable may get ruined by people walking on it.
- If you do not have carpeting in your home, then use your baseboards to hide your wires. Move the baseboards slightly away from the wall using a large screwdriver or small crowbar, drop your cable in behind the baseboard and then gently hammer the baseboards back in place. Be sure to give some slack on both ends of the wire in case you need to make an adjustment.
- According to DIY Home Theater Design, one effective way to hide wires is to not have them at all. This can only be used on stereo speakers, but using a wireless speaker system will eliminate all cables and any need to do remodeling to hide cables. You can either purchase wireless speakers, or get a wireless system to utilize your existing speaker system.
