How to Make a Wood Arch
- 1). Position one of the 2-by-6 pieces on a level surface. Measure out how tall you want the arch portion to be with a tape measure and mark this on the wood with a pencil. Position a tack at the bottom measurement and draw a half circle onto the wood with a string and pencil to mark out your initial guide. Measure 2 inches below and construct the inside guide. Cut out the arch with a jigsaw, being careful to follow your lines.
- 2). Trace the arch onto the other three panels and cut it out again with the jigsaw.
- 3). Glue and clamp two panel pieces together and screw the arch pieces together using 3 inch wood screws and placing two screws every 6 inches along the entire arch. Repeat with the other two.
- 4). Clamp a 1-by-6 inch beam onto the bottoms of each arch in the exact distance apart that you want the arch pieces. Turn the arch right side up and cut out nine top rails out of a 3/4-by-1 1/2-inch stock pieces. Position these rails equidistant along the arch and screw them into place.
- 5). Build your side pieces out of 3 1/2-by-3 1/2 posts, 6 feet long. You'll need four posts.
- 6). Cut some 3/4 inch lattice pieces from the panel scraps and cross hatch them onto the posts.
- 7). Cut the 1-by-6 inch beams in half and place at the top of the lattices and at the bottom of the arches.
- 8). Screw the arches and the lattice pieces together.
