Cute & Simple Ways to Knit a Scarf
- When you want a unique look while keeping the basic simplicity of a scarf project, make yourself a long and skinny scarf. A long and skinny scarf might be half or only a third as wide as a regular scarf but it is significantly longer, providing in length what it lacks in width. Make a long and skinny scarf twice as long as a regular scarf and wind it around your neck three or four times for a fashionable look.
- Even a plain garter stitch scarf can look fancy when you use a fashion yarn. Fashion yarn, also called novelty yarn, usually has some kind of texture that distinguishes it from regular yarn. It might be fuzzy, hairy or super-sleek and when you knit it into a normal scarf, it creates a unique texture. Use fashion yarn combined with large needles for an open airy effect in your textured scarf.
- Beads give your scarf a glittery look and add decoration to an otherwise plain scarf. Before you start knitting, simply string a large quantity of beads onto the yarn with a tapestry needle. When you reach a space where you want a bead, simply knit the bead into the pattern. You can choose to add beads to the design or you can simply add a bead whenever you like for a more scattered, off-the-cuff effect.
- Triangular scarves can be worn over the shoulders as small shawls or they can be knotted around the throat for an asymmetrical line. After you are done with your triangular scarf, add some fringe to the edges to give the scarf some motion as it lies around your throat. A triangular scarf may be knitted from the top down or from the bottom up, so read the pattern carefully to make sure that you know what you are doing.
