How to Make Your Own Lip Gloss for a Cheap Price
- 1). Wash your old lip gloss pots with warm, soapy water, sterilize them with a splash of rubbing alcohol and rinse them thoroughly with water.
- 2). Dry the containers with a clean towel. If you do not have any old lip gloss pots, you can use a clean, empty baby food or other small jar with a lid to store it.
- 3). Mix equal parts of solid vegetable shortening and petroleum jelly (depending on how much lip gloss you want to make) into a small microwave safe bowl.
- 4). Melt the mixture until it is warm, check on it every 10 seconds and stir the mixture with a spoon. It just needs to melt enough to be able to blend it together.
- 5). Add a small amount of cocoa powder or a chocolate drink mix powder and mix it well. Add more cocoa powder until it reaches the shade you want. This will give you a chocolaty tasting lip gloss that has a warm, earth tone color to it. It will get darker if you add more cocoa powder.
- 6). Spoon the mixture into the clean containers; it will solidify a bit when it cools.
- 1). Scrape lipstick out of old lipstick tubes that are no longer useful. You can use a toothpick or bamboo skewer to remove the lipstick. This is an excellent way to recycle the expensive lipstick remaining in the tube.
- 2). Mix in a small microwave safe bowl 1 tsp. of grated beeswax and ½ tsp. of the recycled lipstick.
- 3). Add half a tsp. of petroleum jelly to the bowl and microwave the mixture until it begins to melt, checking on it every 10 to 15 seconds.
- 4). Add two drops of liquid from a broken Vitamin E capsule if desired.
- 5). Stir the mixture well, pour it into the clean containers and allow it to cool and solidify.
