Aging - Delay Its Effects For A While

103 28
Aging comes to us all, sooner or later, and we all want to delay its effects for as long as we can.
We can't stop our aging clock, or turn it back, but there are several things we can do to delay the aging process by taking care of ourselves.
Here are some tips to help.
1.
Avoid any dangerous activities which could cause you injury.
Obvious ones could include bungee jumping, mountaineering and any other sport which could be described as being extreme.
Less obvious activities which could end up causing injury include ice skating, playing rugby or running, if your knees aren't what they used to be.
2.
When you're outdoors, always wear sunscreen.
The sun has a very damaging effect on skin, and can lead to premature aging.
Keep your skin moisturized with a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor, and never deliberately sunbathe.
Avoid sunburn at all costs - as well as being painful, and potentially dangerous, it can lead to skin problems in later years.
3.
Make sure your diet is healthy - nutrition is important to you and your body.
We all know what we should be eating for our diets to be healthy, but actually doing it is another matter.
Make sure you get your five portions of fruit and vegetables, and drink plenty of water.
Cut down on junk food and snacks.
If you drink more alcohol than you should, then reduce your intake to a safe level.
4.
Exercise for at least half an hour per day.
This doesn't have to be overly strenuous, just enough to raise your heart rate.
A brisk walk is ideal, or perhaps a swim in the local pool.
Make sure it's an activity you enjoy, or you won't have the motivation to do it every day.
You may feel like walking outside when it's a warm, sunny day, but it may be less appealing when it's cold and raining.
5.
Get an annual health checkup from your GP to find any potential health problems.
It's much easier to sort out minor health problems when they first appear, rather than waiting until they could be more difficult to sort out.
Regular blood pressure tests are extremely important, particularly if you are carrying a few extra pounds.
By making these small changes to your lifestyle, you should be able to slow down some of the effects of aging.
They'll also lengthen your life expectancy, and make you feel better in your daily life.
