How to Filter and Clean Fuel
- 1). Check the amount of fuel in the tank. Don't rely on just the gauge. Use a measuring stick to see if the gauge is reading accurately.
- 2). Look at the stick and notice the change in color at the end. Water settles at the bottom of the tank and the change in coloring will tell you how much water has contaminated the fuel.
- 3). Stick a tube into the fuel tank and siphon out the water from the bottom of the tank. There are battery-operated siphons that create suction for you so you can remove the water from the bottom of the tank. You will know when all the water is gone when a different color liquid begins to flow out of the tube.
- 4). Pour all the fuel out of the tank semi-annually. Filter the fuel with cheese cloth to remove contaminates. Wipe the inside out with clean clothes removing all dirt from inside the tank. Pour only filter fuel back into the tank.
- 5). Add special liquid additives into the fuel system monthly to keep control of bacteria growth and reduce the formation of condensation.
