Conflict Between Office 2003 & Norton AntiVirus

104 64

    Problem

    • Executable files are compiled program files that initialize a program. Norton AntiVirus is designed to look at all executable and machine code files to determine if they were created out of malicious code. The Norton AntiVirus database may not have the latest upgrades or hot fixes in its catalog for Office 2003 or associated third-party files. When this occurs, the new or upgraded files are looked at by Norton as "intrusion" files, which can cause problems in Office 2003.

    Solution

    • There are solutions to avoid program conflicts between Office 2003 and Norton AntiVirus. The first is to ensure that Norton AntiVirus is constantly upgraded. The second is to ensure that Office 2003 has the upgrades and hot fixes loaded according to the operating system it is using, i.e., Windows XP, Microsoft Vista or Windows 7.

    Upgrades

    • Norton AntiVirus has a firewall feature that checks incoming upgrades to all software applications. The firewall can be set to allow authentic Microsoft upgrades to Office 2003. Norton AntiVirus is subscription-based software that is only effective when the latest versions with upgraded virus databases are installed.
