A Look at Greatest Oil Painting Artists of All Time

Oil paints are a great medium of art which has produced some of the greatest artists all over. If one is willing to buy oil paintings, it becomes essential to know at least the biggest artists of all time and their works in order to differentiate between a great painting and cheap paintings. 

Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo tops the list of all time favorite oil paintings artists. Born in Florence as an illegitimate Child, Leonardo came to limelight with Baptism of Christ in which he had painted an angel. However, Leonardo Da Vinci is remembered for his Last Supper and not to forget Mona Lisa in oil paints.
Not many works of Leonardo exist today owing to his own disastrous experiments. The fifteen oil paintings of the artist that survive today are par excellence for their drawing and precision.

Michelangelo
When it comes to oil painting artist names, Michelangelo cannot go unnoticed. The Italian painter, who is famous for making Renaissance paintings, was also a sculptor, poet, architect and engineer. Michelangelo was not raised by his own parent and his own father was highly disappointed when he was told of his son's becoming a painter.
The 16th Century painter is famous for sculpturing Pieta and David. It is an irony that the work he is most famous for were made with medium he was not really fond of. He used to think that he is not good at fresco and never liked it. But even today, he is remembered for The Last Judgment and Genesis scenes.

Vincent van Gogh
No one can defeat Van Gogh in creating the best of post-Impressionist artwork oil paintings. The kind of hues he used and the emotions blurted out of his paintings, no other painter has been able to have the same impact again.
He used to work at Hogue gallery. One can see his love for Downtrodden though most of his works. Unfortunately, he shot himself at the age of 37 and it is believed that he was mentally sick.

Pablo Picasso
Picasso is yet another famous name in modern art paintings of his time. he was a sculptor and draftsman too other than being a painter and is known for bringing cubist movement in art. His greatest artworks are inspired by German bombing during civil war. He has experimented in various mediums, techniques and theories and people would die to buy oil paintings by him. He was one of the most renowned 20th Century painters.

Rembrandt
Rembrandt was Dutch by origin and was influenced by Michelangelo's works. Known for eroticism of his elements and subjects, unusual lighting effects and painting figures from bible, Rembrandt focused upon dark background to make his image three dimensional. 
He was supposed to be one of the best oil painting artists when it came to making portraits.
