How to Make a Western Style Holster
- 1). Place the gun on a piece of cardboard and trace its general outline with a marker, leaving plenty of room around the gun to make sure that the holster will be large enough to comfortably slip the gun in and out of. You will need to make a front and back for your holster, remember that the back and front of the holster should fit neatly together.
- 2). Cut out the cardboard pattern and place it on the leather, lightly tracing the design onto the leather.
- 3). Cut out the holster pattern with a razor knife.
- 4). Bring two pieces of the holster together and fasten them together lightly with a clothes pin. Make sure they fit together properly, and test your holster by gently inserting the gun. The gun should fit smoothly into the holster.
- 5). Cut out two pieces of felt to form the lining of your holster. Felt should be the same pattern as your leather and fit exactly. Sew or glue the pieces of felt to the backs of your pieces of leather. Make sure the felt does not significantly affect the fit of your gun in the holster.
- 6). Sew the holster together using an industrial quality sewing machine with needle and thread designed for leather.
- 7). Cut two identical slits in the back piece of the holster so it will fit on a gun belt. Slits should be approximately a centimeter apart.
- 8). Wet the holster and insert your gun into it. If desired, you can first wrap the gun in some kind of plastic to keep the moisture from affecting the weapon. Press the holster to the gun and shape the leather to the form of the gun.
