How to Sand New Concrete Interior Floors
- 1). Put on goggles and a respirator to protect your eyes and lungs from concrete dust and debris.
- 2). Place a diamond-embedded sanding disk -- 100 to 200 grit -- on a floor grinder, and run it over the concrete floor three or four times to smooth the pitted, coarse surface. Sweep up dust and debris.
- 3). Change to a finer-grit sanding disk -- 300 or higher -- to further smooth and refine the floor. Continue progressing to finer- and finer-grit disks, running each over the floor two or three times. Sweep up dust and debris.
- 4). Finish sanding with a 1,500-grit disk to give your floor a glossy, high-shine finish. Sweep your floor one last time.
- 5). Replace your sanding disk with a buffing disk. Spread a polishing compound over your floor, and run the machine over it to buff it for a shiny, dirt-repelling finish.
