How to Transfer a Recording to a Computer
- 1). Insert the CD with the recording you want to digitize into your computer.
- 2). Label the title, album and artist for the tracks on the CD. In most music cataloging programs (i.e. iTunes, Windows Media Player, et al.) this can be done by right-clicking on the track and clicking "Info." On the resulting dialog window, enter the information you want the track to remember.
- 3). Record the tracks from the CD to your music library with your music library software (iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc.) by clicking the "Rip" or "Record from CD" button.
- 1). Connect your turntable or cassette deck to your computer's line-in jack using the RCA to 1/8-inch cable. Plug the red and white RCA connectors into the corresponding output jacks on your cassette deck or turntable, and connect the 1/8-inch connector to the line-in jack on your computer.
- 2). Launch Audacity.
- 3). Press "Record" in Audacity, and then press "Play" on your cassette deck (or set the needle down on your turntable).
- 4). When the cassette (or record) is finished playing, press "Stop" in Audacity.
- 5). Export the audio using File > Export as WAV to create a digital audio file of the recording on your computer.
