How to Repair a Burn on Corian
- 1). Clean the Corian to remove residue on or around the burn. Use mild soap and water and rinse and dry it thoroughly with rags.
- 2). Place a 220-grit disc onto the orbital sander and lock it into place as necessary. Begin at one edge of the Corian and work toward the other. Sand the entire area thoroughly, using a moderate speed. Stop sanding when you observe that most of the burned spot is no longer visible.
- 3). Replace the 220-grit disc with a fine-grit disc. Choose a 400-grit or 440-grit disc. Sand over Corian to remove the remainder of the burn, again moving from one end of the area to the other. Keep sanding until you can no longer see any of the burn stain.
- 4). Switch out the previous sanding disc with a very fine 800-grit disc. Evenly sand over the Corian once, working in long, even lines. Again, move from one end to the other.
- 5). Wipe down the Corian with a damp rag to remove all of the debris. Make sure that the Corian is very damp.
- 6). Hand-sand any areas of the Corian that are uneven or rough, using a piece of automotive black sandpaper, 1,000-grit. Make the entire surface level and smooth.
- 7). Apply a squeeze or two of rubbing or buffing compound onto the soft buffing pad of an electric buffer or a drill with a buffing attachment. Choose a low to moderate speed that you can easily control. Buff the entire surface of the Corian to restore the shine. Move in straight, steady lines and work evenly from one end to the other.
