How to Use Extra Skin Care Products During the Holidays
- 1). Wash your face with tepid water, a soft washcloth and a gentle, moisturizing cleanser. Look for one containing alpha hydroxy acids, derived from fruit, to smooth away dead skin cells. Use a clean washcloth and towel every time you wash your face, since used ones can harbor bacteria that can lead to breakouts.
- 2). Moisturize your skin after washing. Choose a moisturizer suited to your skin type. Even acne-prone skin may need a dose of oil-free hydration in the holiday months. If you're over 30, you may wish to choose an anti-aging formula. Look for extra skin care products formulated with aloe, olive oil and vitamin E during the holidays.
- 3). Use a moisturizing body wash instead of soap when you shower, and use the coolest water that is comfortable. Rather than relying on bar soap, which can strip moisture from skin, choose a shower gel containing colloidal oatmeal, shea or cocoa butter.
- 4). Wash only the most crucial parts of your body in cold weather. Princeton University Health Services recommends that you wash your face, hands, feet, genitals and underarms, avoiding the rest of your body if your skin becomes dry, as it can during the holidays.
- 5). Continue to use sunscreen even during the cold holiday months. Look for body lotions, moisturizers and lip balms with an SPF of at least 15. UV rays can still damage your skin, even though the sun is not as intense during the holidays as it is in the summertime.
