How to Restore Boat Gelcoat
- 1). Mix five gallons of water with five cups of liquid detergent in a clean five-gallon plastic bucket. Wash the boat with this mixture and a sponge. Allow the boat to air dry.
- 2). Wipe the gelcoat surface down with a clean rag soaked in acetone and folded into a square. Turn the rag as needed to use as clean a part of the rag as possible. Allow any acetone remaining on the surface to evaporate.
- 3). Apply polishing compound to the gelcoat surface with a clean cloth, working in one small area at a time. Rub the polish until the surface appears glassy.
- 4). Apply automotive paste wax with a clean cloth in a circular motion. Allow the wax to dry to a hazy finish and buff the haze away with an electric buffer.
