Will an Apple iPod Shuffle 1GB Work on Vista?
- The iPod shuffle works on a Vista system that contains at least a 1 gigahertz Intel or AMD processor running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the operating system. If your Vista system is 64 bit, you must download and use the iTunes 64-bit installer. Your computer must also have an available USB 2.0 port, a DirectX 9.0-compatible video card with 32 megabytes of video memory, a QuickTime-compatible sound card and a broadband Internet connection.
- Navigate your computer’s Internet browser to www.apple.com/itunes/download and click the “Download iTunes Now” link to download the latest version of iTunes. Click the circle next to “iTunes 10.4.1 for Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7” or “iTunes 10.4.1 for Windows (64-bit).” Only download the 64-bit version of iTunes if your computer is running the 64-bit version of Vista. Click the "Download Now" button and follow the onscreen prompts to complete the download and installation process.
- Plug your iPod shuffle’s USB cable’s larger connector into the bottom of the music player. Plug the cable’s smaller connector into any available USB port on the front, side or back of your computer. Vista will automatically detect the iPod shuffle, load its device driver and launch iTunes. Follow the onscreen prompts to set up the music player within iTunes. The onscreen wizard will also guide you through transferring music files to your iPod shuffle.
- Your Vista system also recharges your 1 GB iPod shuffle’s internal battery via the music player’s USB cable connection. The battery indicator light on the top of the music player will change from red to green once the battery is charged.
