Fast Theme Ideas for a Yearbook

104 11
    • If you've been tasked with creating a yearbook for your school, whether it's for a day care center, elementary or high school, you can develop a theme that can be used quickly and easily. You will need to either create your yearbook using a graphics program or, alternatively, create an outline and sketches of your design premise, including ideas for the aesthetic appearance of your yearbook, so that a hired graphic artist can assemble the book.

    Seasonal Theme

    • A fairly straightforward approach for your yearbook is to use graphics that represent the seasons of the year as a background for the yearbook photos. You can find a great array of imagery, including clip art and photos, online in the public domain (free). The photos and content can be arranged chronologically, by season, based on when they were taken or events occurred. You may want to use photos exclusively or intermix photos with clip art or other graphics. You may also choose to add quotes in your yearbook that are representative of each seasonal section.

    Sports and Outdoor Theme

    • Creating a design theme that focuses on sports or outdoor activities can be effective, especially for a yearbook for younger children. You may include images of kids having fun on the playground, finding leaves or playing baseball, for example. Adding clip art of sports items can also be a quick and easy way to create a background for your yearbook. Remember that even if you don't have a great deal of experience in graphic design, there are basic user-friendly programs that will allow you to create this type of design.

    Subjects Students are Learning About

    • Incorporate the subjects children have studied throughout the year as a backdrop for your yearbook. For example, if students have studied the founding fathers of America, or animals from around the world, use related art for sections of the book. You may also want to include a short fact under the theme images. Typography can follow the theme, as well (old-fashioned script for the colonial theme, for example).
