DIY Taps
- 1). Turn off the water to the room you're working in.
- 2). Remove the existing taps by unscrewing them from the tap-connectors of your current fixture. The tap connector is the pipe that is found under the counter. It threads up through a hole in the counter and is attached to the current fixture. You may need a wrench to loosen the taps.
- 3). Take the old taps with you to purchase new taps so you can choose ones that fit the hardware in your home.
- 4). Thread a sealing gasket onto the tap and set the tap into the hole in your counter.
- 5). Place a washer onto the tap-connector. Add a back nut to the tap-connector next and follow that with a top-hat washer. All of this hardware should be included with your new taps or you can purchase them individually at the hardware store.
- 6). Screw the tap to the tap-connector, tightening the top-hat washer to the top of the counter and the back nut to the tap-connector. It is safe now to turn on your water.
