Sausage Treats for a Breakfast Party

    Ground or Link

    • Bulk sausage may be adapted to many recipes that call for ground chicken, beef or lamb. Seasoning might need to be adjusted for pork rather than the meat the original recipe calls for. There are a variety of plated or handheld treats to choose from. You could get very adventurous and make your own sausage with ground pork and seasonings of your choice and then use it in your breakfast treat recipe. Link sausage may be used whole or sliced and diced.

    Kid-friendly

    • Prepare foods that most children are familiar with or would have fun eating. Prepare items that have mild seasoning for the kids. You can make Belgian waffles and stir pre-cooked bulk sausage into the batter. Cook and cut the waffles into "logs," and then let the kids dip them in syrup. Pigs-in-blankets can be dipped in ketchup. Or make little pizzas with link or bulk sausage and ready-to-cook pizza dough or English muffins. You could even try breakfast tacos or burritos!

    Adult-friendly

    • Adults might enjoy something they wouldn't cook at home. Breakfast lasagne, biscuits with sausage gravy, or an egg-sausage casserole make a delicious leisure treat around the table. There are recipes for sausage in braided dough, sausage pie and the too-often-ridiculed quiche. And there's the classic British "Toad-in-a-hole" made with link sausage. If you want some adult hand-held treats, offer sausage pinwheels or breakfast quesadillas, or adjust the kids' tacos and burritos to adult tastes with more spices and ingredients.

    Preparation and Cleaning Up

    • If your party takes place on a relaxed morning with friends or family, maximize your time together by letting them help with the preparation and cooking. If your plans include a deadline for a day trip or special event, prepare as much of your breakfast ingredients as practical ahead of time. If the recipe calls for cooked sausage or vegetables, cut, cook and store them in the refrigerator until it is time for assembly. You can use ready-to-cook dough and a bag of grated cheese to eliminate grating by hand. The more you do ahead, the less time you'll have to spend preparing and cleaning up the day of the party.
