How to Get Pointers in Windows
- 1). Download the pointers you want to add to the computer and save them to the desktop. You can find pointers on several websites (see Resources).
- 2). Unzip the downloaded file, if necessary. Right-click the file and select "Extract All." Browse to the location where you want to unzip the file and click "Extract."
- 3). Click "Start" and input "mouse pointer" into the search box. Click on the "Change how the mouse pointer looks" link that appears. A dialog box will appear.
- 4). Click on the "Pointers" tab and choose the pointer scheme for which you want to change pointers from the "Scheme" drop-down box.
- 5). Select the pointer that you want to change from the "Customize" field. Note that each pointer relates to a different function. For example, the "Normal Select" pointer is the pointer that appears on the screen most of the time, while the "Busy" pointer is what appears when the computer is processing.
- 6). Click "Browse" and navigate to the folder on your desktop containing the new pointer you downloaded. Select the desired pointer and click "Open." Note that pointers must be either ".ani" or ".cur" file extensions.
- 7). Change each pointer for the selected scheme by highlighting the pointer in the "Customize" field and browsing to the downloaded pointer.
- 8). Click "Apply" when you are finished to save the settings. Exit the mouse pointers dialog box.
