    • 1). Coil up your rope to about 20 or 30 feet and locate a high tree branch that is slightly parallel to the ground but still pointing upward. Ensure that the limb of the tree is at a height of 12 to 15 feet off of the ground.

    • 2). Throw the coil of rope over the tree limb and tie it securely around the tree. Just wrap one end of the rope around the trunk and tie it to the back to the rope.

    • 3). Repeat Step 2 on another nearby tree of similar height. Pull the rope as tight as you can before you tie it to the second tree.

    • 4). Drape the tarp over the rope and try to center it as much as possible so that it hangs evenly on both sides. The tarp will sag just a little bit.

    • 5). Cut four sections of rope at a length of three feet each. Place the ropes through the corner eyelets of the tarp and tie them in place.

    • 6). Wrap the corner rope around a ground stake twice and stake it into the ground. Repeat with the other corner rope on the same side of the tarp that you started with.

    • 7). Go to the other side of the tarp and repeat the process only pull the ropes tight and wrap them around the stakes several times until it becomes taut. This will secure the tarp tent to the ground so that it can stand up to a moderate wind and not flap around.
