104 25
    • 1). Find a location to intern or work part-time to get some basic experience. Hands-on training is the best method for this type of job. Request to shadow a property manager for at least a day to see what the job is like. This will help you learn about what tasks will be assigned as a new consultant. For example, collecting rent payments and tracking resident leasing end dates could be part of the routine tasks.

    • 2). Learn about real estate and property management regulations. Every office will have laws and real estate information present. Take the opportunity during a break to review it to become more knowledgeable about the position. Be sure to inform the property manager of your interest to inspect the information first.

    • 3). Take the time to learn about the environment of the property being managed. Tour the property and learn about the amenities offered. Good leasing consultants should understand the rates, maintenance services and security details of the property.
