Superfoods Are A Myth
A super food is a food that has great health benefits.
Depending on what list you read, the new food may be any type of fruit or vegetable.
It changes week by week, because the media is fickle.
In reality, all fruits and vegetables have health benefits.
Some are better than others, but there is no vegetable or fruit that would be considered poor nutrition, even white potatoes.
Compare that to what people most often buy: Processed foods.
Processed foods remove all of the healthy vitamins and minerals, the potent enzymes and healthy fats.
They replace them with chemicals, the artificial flavor of the week, and a minuscule amount of artificial 'nutrient superstar in the media'.
These processed food-like products are poor nutrition, every single one of them.
Or even compare to supplements: concentrated doses of shelf-stable chemicals.
Yes, that is right, all supplements are concentrated chemicals.
We are not meant to take in 1,000mg of Vitamin C in one dose.
Our bodies are designed to absorb less than 250mg at a time and only if that is under the optimal circumstances.
So, most of those expensive horse-pills go right down the toilet.
Many supplements can be considered toxic if we could actually absorb them.
Supplements are not nutrition and should not be counted.
This is why I recommend eating your fruits and vegetables.
They contain the optimal amounts of nutrients to be absorbed at any one time.
Eating a balanced diet of local fruits and vegetables and grass-fed meats give us all the nutrients we need all the time.
There is no need for processed foods or supplements if we are eating a balanced diet.
But most people are not.
They choose the lazy path of pre-packaged foods and expecting the latest miracle of the week to solve their problems.
Blueberry flavoring on your cereal is still unhealthy, even when the newspapers say blueberries are a superfood.
If you look at the ingredient list, there are no blueberries in the blueberry cereal.
We also cannot expect any food to be vastly superior to any others.
If that was the case, we would find many animals eating these foods.
Since all wild animals eat what they needs, in a balanced way, it tells us that there is nothing out there that is more nutritious than anything else.
If you are looking for more Vitamin A, certain foods are better than others.
If you are looking for magnesium, there are certain foods that are better than others.
But there is no food with everything you need in one package.
That is why we need lots of different vegetables.
Don't fall for the media superfood of the week.
It's a marketing game, trickery.
All fruits and vegetables are healthy.
Here are my tips for getting everything you need:
Depending on the latest superfood will actually deprive you of nutrients needed for survival.
Blueberries may be great to eat, but they contain little vitamin A.
Balance is the key, mix it up and enjoy!
