How to Style Micro Braids for a Prom
- 1). Section your micro braids into six sections by parting your hair down the center to the back of the crown and making top and bottom sections in the left, back and right sides of your hair. Keep these separate using the hair claws or small elastic bands.
- 2). Release one section of your hair and apply a generous helping of mousse from the roots of the braids to the ends.
- 3). Take a few braids in one portion and heat them from top to bottom with the curling iron. Your goal here is not to actually curl the braids yet, just heat them up.
Repeat steps 1 to 3 with the rest of your hair until all braids are un-sectioned and heated. - 4). Take a few braids per section and roll them around a rubber curling rod. The goal is to create spiral braids, so the more twists you can put in the braids, the curlier your braids will be. Repeat this process around the rest of your braids until all micro braids are rolled around rubber rods.
Form the rubber rod into a donut shape after twisting each section to prevent hair from unraveling and falling off the rod. - 5). Blow dry your hair on a low setting for 10 to 15 minutes with the rubber rods still intact. This ensures that the braids will be dry from the styling mousse by the time you release them.
- 6). Release the rods one at a time and separate each individual micro braid from the spiral. Twist it around your finger as you unroll it to keep the spiral shape.
You can keep your hair down and spiraled for prom, or put it in a ponytail holder as an updo. - 1). Gather all the micro braids into the elastic ponytail holder. Try to straighten each braid so it looks smooth going from your scalp into the hair band.
- 2). Wrap all the braids around the ponytail holder to form a donut shape at the top back of your head. Use the hair pins to secure it in place on all sides.
- 3). Wrap only half of the micro braids around the ponytail holder for a curly updo. With the remaining micro braids in the ponytail, follow steps 2 to 6 in the above section to sport an elegant, curly updo.
