Stratapulse Ipl System
Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that can dramatically improve skins appearance using only light. IPL has found widespread use in correcting skin discoloration and permanently reducing unwanted hair.
The Stratapulse IPL system from Dermavista is among the most versatile IPL devices on the market. With multiple wavelength filters, dynamic pulse settings, and over 12 FDA cleared treatment indications, the Stratapulse makes a great way to add IPL treatments to your practice.
** Features **
- Programmed with over 12 FDA cleared treatment indications
- Dynamic pulse settings to adjust the speed and strength of each light pulse
- Multiple filters for different applications and skin types
- Integrated thermal cooling for reducing discomfort during treatment
- An easy-to use LCD interface
- Large spot size
- 50,000 pulses per lamp
** Uses **
By adjusting the wavelength range, the Stratapulse can target and treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Acne scars
- Sun damage
- Age spots
- Vascular lesions
- Scars
- Pigmented lesions (including freckles, liver spots, and birth marks)
- Unwanted hair
** How does Stratapulse work? **
Hair Reduction:
Stratapulse removes hair by targeting the pigment in the hairs bulb and destroying it with heat. Before treatment, the operator tunes the Stratapulse to a specific frequency range which targets hair without damaging the surrounding skin. The Stratapulse handpiece directs a focused, broad-spectrum light at the patients skin. The light penetrates the skin, reaching the bulb of the hair follicle. Once absorbed by the bulb, the light energy transforms into heat, destroying the bulb, shaft, and hair producing papilla.
Correcting Pigment:
The process for treating lesions and discoloration is similar to hair reduction, except the pigments in blood or melanin are targeted in place of hair. The light heats and destroys the pigment responsible for discoloration while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.
** Who is a Candidate for Intense Pulsed Light Therapy? **
The ideal candidate has fair skin and suffers from uneven pigmentation caused by aging or sun damage, shallow acne scarring, or has unwanted hair. Patients with more severe skin conditions should consider other procedures that can produce more dramatic results.
Patients who are pregnant, have skin cancer, or take drugs that increase skins sensitivity to light (such as Accutane) should not receive intense pulsed light therapy. Dark skinned patients must be carefully evaluated by the clinician before treatment, as darker skin types have a greater risk of side effects from IPL.
** Side Effects **
Patients may experience skin redness, peeling, swelling or itching following treatment. These side effects usually last no more than a few days.
Some patients have reported more serious IPL side effects such as burning, blistering and scarring. To avoid complications, patients should only receive IPL treatments from licensed skin care professionals, and follow all guidelines for pre and post treatment. Clinicians performing IPL should closely adhere to the devices operation and maintenance instructions.
** Post Treatment **
Patients should avoid direct sun exposure to the treated areas and wear a sun block with SPF15 or greater for a minimum 14 days following treatment. Patients receiving permanent hair reduction of the axillary regions should avoid using deodorants or shaving for 2 days following treatment. A follow up consultation is highly recommended 24 hours after treatment to assess side effects and schedule further treatment sessions.
