    • 1). Make sure your computer has an antivirus application installed. If you are using a paid application, make sure that your subscription hasn't expired. If you need an antivirus, free applications such as Microsoft Security Essentials, Avast! Free Antivirus and Avira AntiVir can be downloaded and installed free of charge.

    • 2). Click "Start" from your Windows desktop and click the small arrow next to "Shut Down." Click "Restart."

    • 3). Hold "F8" as your computer begins to reboot to load the Advanced Boot Menu. Select "Safe Mode with Networking" and click "Enter."

    • 4). Launch your antivirus application when your computer loads and trigger an update. This will download the most recent virus definitions and will give you the best chance at catching the trojan.

    • 5). Run a full scan of your entire computer and all attached drives to find all of the malware on your computer. When the scan completes, delete all malware it detected including the FakeAValert. Restart your computer to reload Windows normally.
