Windows of Opportunity (Going, Going, GONE?)
Without a doubt the number 1 reason given for not achieving our health and fitness goals is...
? A lack of time "No time to work out.
" "No time to prepare meals.
" "No time to eat healthy.
" Yes, we live in a CRAZY world and almost everyone seems to be scurrying around from one thing to the next.
But here's the thing, we all have the same 24 hours in the day, so how is it possible that some of the BUSIEST people also have the time to take care of themselves as well? It's all about how we use our windows of opportunity.
So what exactly is a "window of opportunity?" Here's how I define it: "A short period of time that can be either be used productively or non productively to take us closer OR distance us from our health and fitness objectives.
" Here are some predicaments that many of us face...
Predicament 1: You work 6 days per week, 12 hours per day and struggle to find time to exercise.
You're also constantly stressed and wish you had more of a social life.
Window of opportunity: 60 minutes at lunch time.
Option a) You work through your lunch break to catch up on projects.
You also check your email and send messages to your friends via Facebook.
Option b) You go for a brisk walk to a nearby park and meet a couple of friends for a leisurely picnic lunch.
Predicament 2: You're a stay at home mum or dad and have "no time" to work out.
Window of opportunity: 60 minutes or less during baby's nap time.
Option a) You catch up on housework and / or watch Days of Our Lives.
Option b) You take baby in the stroller and do a 20 minute interval workout around the neighborhood OR you do a 30 minute fat blast workout from the comfort of home (By the way, I have a son and often work from home so I can definitely relate to this one!) Predicament 3: You have no time to eat healthy therefore you tend to eat on the run / buy food instead.
(Even though you know it's the more expensive option) Window of opportunity: Immediately after work - 30 minutes.
Option a) You arrive home and plonk yourself on the sofa after a hard days work.
Option b) While cooking dinner you make extra for lunch the next day and prepare some quick snacks as well.
Conclusion: Every day we have windows of opportunity.
Every day we're faced with choices.
We can use these windows wisely or we can squander away our most valuable asset - our time.
The only question is, "Are YOUR choices taking you closer or distancing you from your health and fitness goals?
