Should an Inserted Link in WordPress Be the Same as the URL?
- WordPress provides a links section in the administrator panel where you can manage all the links in your blogroll. To insert a link, click "Add New" below the "Links" section in the administration panel. When you add a new link, you must enter a name for the link such as "Favorite SEO blog" and its URL such as "http://www.yourlinkhere.xxx/." Optionally, you can add a description, a new category, your relationship to the owner of that site, a link to an image for that site or a link to its RSS feed. You can keep the link private or make it public.
- From within a blog post, you can link to external sites or to other areas of your blog. To insert a link in a post or page, type the anchor text in the post body and then press "Alt+Shift+A" or click the chain icon on the toolbar. Enter the complete URL of the link including the "http://." Type a name such as "My Other Blog," which will appear when someone hovers the mouse over the link. If linking internally, you do not have to enter the URL manually; instead you can click the arrow beside "Or link to existing content," and select an item from the list. Click "Add Link." You can link to other posts, to categories or tags.
- When compiling your blogroll, add links that are relevant to your blog's topic. Do not forget to add the Links widget to the sidebar by going to the "Widgets" section. To ensure that the URLs work, click "View Link" on the right side of the link editing page. For blog posts, simply click the links in the post to see if they direct the browser to the correct target.
