How to Activate an Infrared Port
- 1). Go to your "Device Manager" on your computer by clicking the "Start" button, then "Control Panel." Click "System and Maintenance" and then select "Device Manager." If it requires a password, enter your administrator password. You will see a list of available devices.
- 2). Click on the "Start" button, "Control Panel" then "System." Open the "Hardware" icon and from there you will see the "Device Manager." This is for Windows XP users.
- 3). Enable the infrared port by double-clicking on "Infrared Devices," right click on the device and select "Enable."
- 1). Go to your cell phone's "Menu" and select "Settings."
. - 2). Scroll down until you see the "Connectivity" menu. Select it and a list of devices appears.
- 3). Check the box for "Infrared" or "IR." Some phones do not have the check box, in which case you select the "IR" or IrDA," which stands for infrared data association.
- 4). Align your laptop or your cell phone to another device that has an active infrared port. A wireless icon appears on your screen when the two devices detect each other.
- 5). Click on the file that you wish to send and select "Send Via Infrared." Click "Yes" when you are asked for confirmation. Your files will send and you will get a progress bar. Click "OK" when finished.
