How to Upgrade to Windows XP Home Edition With the Startup Disks
- 1). Back up any data on the computer that you will need after the installation. Attach a portable hard drive to the computer.
- 2). Copy files from the main drive to the portable drive to back them up. Disconnect the drive when you are finished so the files are not affected during installation.
- 3). Insert the XP installation disk into the computer's disk drive. Restart the computer.
- 4). Press the key indicated on screen to choose the boot source when the computer is starting up. Select the CD drive to boot from.
- 5). Press "Enter" and then "F8" to agree to the licensing terms. Choose a partition on the computer's hard drive to install Windows XP.
- 6). Follow the steps in the installation wizard to set the region, user name and other settings. Open Internet Explorer once the installation is complete and install updates using the Windows Update website.
