What Is Makeup Primer?
- Make-up primers are light-weight, gel substances that contain wax, polymers and silicone.
- Primers help with the longevity of the make-up by creating a protective base. This helps the make-up blend easily and stay on the skin rather than sinking into enlarged pores and/or wrinkles.
- Additionally, other benefits of primers include: reduce excess oils; conceal skin blemishes and redness; moisturize; temporarily fill-in wrinkles and prevent a thick, "cakey" appearance.
- Primers are oil-free products and safe for sensitive skin.
- Take a small, pea-size amount and apply it to the nose, cheeks, chin, eyelids and forehead. Then wait a minute before applying the concealer and foundation. Primers also work well with mineral make-up.
- Various products may also add extra substances like grape seed extract, aloe and vitamin E, UVA protection and tint to help with the appearance of the skin.
