How Protein Helps With Muscle Building

105 10
Consuming food rich in protein will help you gain muscle quicker than you would have if you did not consume enough. All muscles need protein for muscle growth and for repair. If you exercise without consuming enough protein, you will not achieve the muscle growth that you are trying to achieve.

Protein is found in basically any animal based product. Poultry, fish, eggs, cheese, etc. all contain protein. Protein can also be found in plants and nuts. However, these sources of protein are not complete proteins. Protein consumption is part of a healthy diet. Even vegetarians need to consume some sort of protein.

If your goal is to build the muscle you may need to consume more than the recommended daily allowance set by the USDA. Protein also plays a role in creating the enzymes and hormones the help strengthen our immune systems. If you do not get enough protein, the body will not be able to maintain the health of your cells and it may also cause other health related problems.

Protein shakes are one of the supplements that you can take to increase your protein consumption. Protein shakes can be used only as the supplement or they can be used as meal replacements. If you decide to supplement protein shakes, it is best to consume them during your workout or shortly thereafter. When you consume a protein shake after your workouts, make sure that you also consume some simple carbohydrates with the shake. This will allow your muscle cells to more efficiently take in the protein and help with growth and repair.

When you lift weights, you create microscopic tears in the muscle. Protein helps in repairing these microscopic tears that are found within the muscle. If you are able to repair the muscle immediately after tearing it down, you will be reducing your recovery time and you will be building the muscle quicker.

There are many types of protein shakes and some have high biological value and are considered complete proteins. This means they have the non-essential and essential amino acids. As stated earlier, any plant based proteins are not complete proteins and do not have all the essential amino acids. In order for plant based proteins to become complete proteins, you usually have to combine foods. For instance, if you combine beans and rice, you will have a complete protein. Beans have certain amino acids and are missing others. It is the same way with rice. So if you combine the two foods, they will complement each other and provide all the essential amino acids.

When you consider implementing a muscle building program, keep in mind that adequate protein consumption is a key component to achieving your goals. Also, be sure to consume the right types of protein and try to time your intake to help with muscle growth and repair.
