    • 1). Learn your shoe size if you do not already know. Your shoe size will sometimes be printed on the tongue or the insole of your shoe. You also may have your feet measured at a shoe store when buying your skate shoes. Go by the shoe size of the shoes you will be wearing when skateboarding, if this is different from your regular shoe size.

    • 2). Choose a skateboard with a width of 6.75 inches or less, if buying a skateboard for a child under 5 years old or anyone who wears a boys size 3 or smaller.

    • 3). Try out a skateboard with a deck that is 7 inches wide if you wear a size 4 to 6 shoe and you are under 4 feet 4 inches.

    • 4). Opt for the medium board, 7.3 inches wide, if you are 5 feet 2 or under and wear a size 7 to 8 shoe.

    • 5). Choose a full-size skateboard that is 7.5 to 8 inches wide if your shoe size is a men's 9 or above. This size board is made for street riding and doing tricks requiring sharp turns.

    • 6). Buy a board wider than 8 inches if you are going to use the skateboard primarily for public ramps and skate parks.
