What Is So Good About Online Studies?

104 5

    Flexible Scheduling

    • In a traditional classroom, students have to attend class on specified dates and at specific times. This can be limiting to some students who want to pursue a degree in addition to other life goals or interests. Online studies allow you the flexibility to log into your classes on your own time and manage your own schedule.

    Travel

    • Online courses do not require you to travel to a college or university campus. You can take classes from your own home or sitting in a local cafe sipping a latte. As long as you have a computer with Internet access you can get to your class. This cuts down drastically on travel time and expenses for students who may otherwise have to commute to a college or university campus.

    Nontraditional Access

    • Nontraditional students may have an easier time with online classes than they do with traditional classes. Working adults can schedule online class time around a full-time job. Parents can schedule online course work around family time or their children's schedules and routines. People with a disability or a home-bound illness can take classes from home and receive medical care at the same time. Even students who suffer from social anxiety may find the online atmosphere of an online study program more comfortable than a traditional class that requires face-to-face interaction.

    Individualized Education

    • When you take a traditional class you have to stick to the pace set by the professor or teacher. You may experience times where you feel you have to rush through complicated material or where you feel held back by the slower pace of other students in the course. In an online program you can tailor your studies to your individual needs. Move quickly through chapters or units that are easy for you and take more time through the ones that confuse you; in an online course there are more flexible requirements for staying on pace with the rest of the class. Online students also work well for visual learners because there are usually not any lectures to listen to. Instead, you have access to course materials in written form on the screen and can print them out at any time. Lectures are videotaped or written out and you can refer back to them as needed.

    Grades and Feedback

    • In online courses, sometimes you have instant feedback on your graded assignments. If you take a quiz online you can see your results immediately. Professors often grade papers faster due to the ease of the online submission and grading formats. Online professors grade on a variety of assignments, from discussion board postings to quizzes and papers. Students have several ways to shine in a classroom like this and also have the opportunity to think through their work and revise it before posting it online.
