How to Install a Johnson Outboard Motor
- 1). Measure the transom and find the center point. The transom is the part of the boat where the outboard motor mounts.
- 2). Mark the center point of the transom with a pencil or marker. This will give your boat balance when the engine is installed and running.
- 3). Take a rope and tie it to the motor. Tie the other end of the rope to the last seat on your boat. This will help if your motor becomes dislodged and begins sinking.
- 4). Check the motor and make sure the clamp is open. Lift the motor and set it on to the transom.
- 5). Line the motor up to the center point and close the clamp. Newer motors will have an easy to close locking mechanism for the clamp. Older models may require a pliers to close the clamp.
- 6). Connect your gas line from the tank to the engine. Before starting the engine, prime the gas pump by pressing the primer button
