Clearing The Clutter To Open Your Heart
If you're familiar with the principals of feng shui, then you know how important it is to eliminate non essential items from your living environment.
Items that are broken, not needed, and not useful should ideally be thrown away, donated or sold.
As you take conscious action this year to bring about change in your life, the removal of the clutter in your home, in your relationships or in your career is a crucial ingredient to clearing a space both metaphorically and literally for new opportunities and new goals to come into your life.
Recently I was asked by a friend to come and assist her in clearing her home office of clutter and to reconfigure the placement of her desk, filing cabinets and such.
Although she had a very profitable 2007, she knew that her home office needed some serious attention if she were to have even a better 2008.
Five hours later we had barely begun to create an environment that was conducive to greater success in her business.
She at least knew where everything was.
She sorted through every item down to the paper clips and threw out or put into a donate pile all that no longer served her.
She kept commenting throughout the process, "this feels so good, I'm so excited!" This woman was taking a powerful step towards creating fresh, open energy in her home and in her life.
As you have most likely experienced a cleaned out closet is like taking a breath of pure oxygen (as though we know what that is like!).
For me a clean, vacuumed car is like getting a Christmas present.
A kitchen junk-drawer reorganized puts a smile on my face.
So as we acknowledge the importance of clearing away the clutter from our homes or offices and noticing how good that feels, lets take a look at how this same practice can take place out in our lives and bring it out of the "closet.
" So what's broken in your life? What's old and doesn't serve you any longer? What's stuffed so deep that you can't find it?Are you a packrat and hold onto every wrong ever committed against you or are you prone to "throw the baby out with the bath water" and then regret doing so? Just as a two-car garage stuffed with a family's "overflow" leaves no room for their cars, a life stuffed with old hurts, old disempowering habits and beliefs leaves no room for fresh, new ideas and opportunities to present themselves.
Like the garage that gradually becomes the dumping ground for stuff, our minds and hearts become clogged with junk that we've bought into and stacked ten high and ten deep! Here's the golden goodie about clearing the clutter from your life: stay ahead of it - clean house on a regular, consistent basis.
Before you can't close the closet door because of the overflowing mess, once a month take a peek inside and see if everything in there is useful to you and your family.
Same with your beliefs - check your results that are showing up in your life.
Where do you need to do some weeding before they completely take over your mental and emotional garden! Just a few days ago Cynthia opened the refrigerator door and screamed! She couldn't stand it another minute.
She pushed up her sleeves and within 30 minutes cleaned, reorganized and sanitized the beast and now when we open it we let out an ahhh instead of an ughhh.
Every action we take to clear out the physical clutter in our homes or offices supports our emotional and mental well being.
Every action we take to clear out ouremotional and mental clutter supports our desire to make physical changes.
Hand in hand the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual parts of ourselves work as a united team with the one intention to prepare a space for more love and light to flow into us and out from us and be a force of awesome transformation.
Don't be afraid.
Open the door and dig in!
